Erica Edney - Stampin' Up Demonstrator - Victoria, BC Canada

Friday, 1 September 2017

It's September 1st - Are you kidding me?

Did you see this happen??? Not me! The 'back to school' ads were kind of letting me know but I still thought it was weeks away!!

The only great thing about it being September 1, as a demonstrator, is that the Holiday Catalogue went live this morning. Now everyone can purchase what they need for all their holiday creations.

I've just put the new catalogue image on my home page and if you click on it, you will be taken to the online version. Want a personal copy? Contact me to make arrangements to get one in your hands.

I am very sorry that my Open House was a bust. There just wasn't enough interest. I'm thinking about scheduling it again in October to give you a chance to see all the wonderful projects I've been creating - you can take away some ideas.

Along with the release of the new catalogue is a new promotion for hosts.

The fall would be a great time to have some friend over for a stamping party. I'm happy to bring a project and all the materials. Your friends could have a look through the catalogue and place orders with you. Also, share the catalogue with your neighbours and co-workers to get as many orders as you can. In this way you can earn this free stamp set plus 10% in additional free products. Check out the video here.

The hostess code for September is ZECM4VJH.
Use this code when placing an online order under $200 and your name will be entered into a monthly draw.

Happy stamping everyone.

Seashore Stampers Bog Hop - Anything but a card

Hello fellow stampers,

Welcome again to our monthly blog hop which features a little group of Victoria Stampin' Up! Demonstrators who enjoy each others company, support, project ideas and great potluck lunches.

This month we decided to make something that is 'not a card'. I'm featuring a little box I found on You Tube that uses a 6x6 piece of Designer Series Paper. The unique feature of this little box is that it can be folded for storage so you could make a few and have them handy when you have that little gift to give to someone.

Here is the box I made.

To see how to make this card, check out Buckeye Inklings video. She does an excellent job explaining how to make this box as well as how to change the dimensions for other sizes.

I really love this little box. I particularly like the box she demonstrates for a gift card. There is room for some chocolates in it as well so for the coffee lovers in my life, I would put in a coffee gift card along with some chocolate covered coffee beans. Let me know what you think of this box by sending me a comment.

By clicking on Next Blog you will be taken to Jean's project.

Bonus Days and More

Hello everyone.
I do not want you to miss out on Bonus Days! What are these? Well, Stampin' Up! introduced this promotion last year and since it was such a success they have decided to do it again. Spend in July, earn in August.

Basically, for every $60 you spend (before shipping & tax) in July, you will earn a coupon valued at $6.00 that you can spend in the month of August. If you spend $120, you will receive two coupons. Now, if you spend a minimum of $200, you will get your Stampin' Rewards worth $20 plus three coupons.

Collect your coupons and then spend them in August. And there will be a new stamp set bundle available in August - a preview to the Holiday Catalogue. The stamp set is called Carols for Christmas and is a fabulous set for building card fronts for your holiday card making.

Check out Brandi Barnard's explanation of how it works here and then return here to read the fine print.

This would also be a PERFECT time to stock up on the essentials – card stock, envelopes,  adhesive, etc. Check your supplies and make a list!

The fine print:
  • Bonus Days promotion runs July 1–31, 2017
  • Redemption your Bonus Days coupons August 1–31, 2017
  • A valid email address is required to participate in this promotion; Bonus Days coupon codes can only be delivered via email so MAKE SURE your email address is correct.
  • SAVE THE EMAILS containing your Bonus Days coupon codes OR print out the coupons. Codes cannot be resent if the email is lost, and lost codes cannot be recovered.  (Stampin Up is not giving me your code if its lost. I will have no way of finding this code for you.  Don’t lose it!!!)
  • Bonus Days coupon codes can be redeemed for any product, excluding Starter Kits, Demonstrator Supply Items, and Paper Pumpkin subscriptions. New prepaid Paper Pumpkin codes can be discounted with Bonus Days coupons
If your order is less that $200 then send to me and I will place in a group order. Or, go ahead and order online to be entered into the monthly Host Code draw.

Happy shopping everyone.

Celebrating Canada's 150th

Hello my fellow card-makers,

My downline, Adrienne, hosted a card class featuring Canada Day cards using the Colorful Seasons stamp set. Adrienne designed four fabulous cards, one of which featured a cute beaver using the Fox Builder punch. So cute!!! This stamp set is perfect for Canada Day because it has two different sized maple leaves with coordinating framelits. Check out Adrienne's blog post here.

One card is scored multiple times along the horizontal edge and then folded to create waves in the flag. I made another card using this same folding design and am sharing it here with you.

To make this card cut a piece of Thick Whisper White card stock to measure 4-1/4" x 11 and score and fold at 5-1/2".

Along the horizontal side, score at 3-3/4", 5-1/2" and 8-1/4".
Flip the card stock over and score at 6" and 8-3/4".

Now, to avoid the card stock from cracking, be sure to fold and burnish on the mountain sides of each score line.

Your card should look like this:

Decorate it however you want. On the one I made, the two red strips measure 1-1/2" x 4" and I ran them through the Seashore embossing folder.

I then stamped the large maple leaf from the stamp set - it's a double stamp. I first stamped the outline and then I stamped the solid image after stamping on a scrap piece to remove some of the ink.

I then added Wink of Stella. The lettering on the inside of the card comes from the Labeler Alphabet stamp set.

If you'd like any of the products featured in this card, you can find them in my online store. If you have trouble finding anything, drop me a comment here and I'll give you a hand.

Whatever your plans, have a wonderful Canada Day.

Happy stamping!

Seashore Stampers Blog Hop - Wedding Theme

Welcome back to this month's blog hop - the month of weddings. My parents were married in June, June 24 to be exact and they would have been married for 64 years if they had lived on into their eighties. My husband and I will have been married for 30 years this August, August 15 to be exact.

Today, with so many couples already living together, they already have so much of the basic items that were traditionally given as a wedding gift. Now couples seem to be struggling to make ends meet so a gift card or cash seems to be appropriate and much appreciated.

And for this reason I chose to create a gift card wedding card in monochromatic tones using Whisper White and Tranquil Tide. The gift card is held in place by a panel that slides into the envelope. The envelope is made using the designer series paper on top of which you layer a piece of Tranquil Tide. Then, rather than a flat one-dimensional greeting piece, I decided to create a small card for the front.

Here are the card supplies I used:

Floral Phrases stamp set
Fresh Florals Designer Series Paper
Tranquil Tide card stock
Whisper White card stock
Tranquil Tide stamp pad
VersaMark stamp pad
Silver embossing powder
Word Window punch (retired) or Classic Label punch
1-3/4" circle punch
Hole punch
Layering ovals framelits
1/2" finely woven ribbon in Tranquil Tide

Cutting Measurements (CS = card stock; DSP = designer series paper) and Assembly

For the card envelope:

Tranquil Tide DSP : 6" x 9", scored in landscape position at 4-1/4" and 8-1/2". In portrait position score at 1/2" on left side.
Top layer: Tranquil Tide CS: 5-1/4" x 4"

Burnish the score lines on the DSP envelope. I suggest using Tear & Tape for the adhesive.
Adhere the Tranquil Tide card stock on top.
Using the circle punch, punch half a hole on the top half of the opening.
Set aside.

For the small card:
Whisper White CS: 7-1/2" x 2-3/4" scored at 3-3/4"
1st layer: Tranquil Tide CS: 3-5/8" x 2-5/8"
2nd layer: Tranquil Tide DSP: 3-1/2" x 2-1/2"

Adhere the card stock piece followed by the DSP piece to the front. Cut a 1/2" slit along the spine of the card to thread the ribbon through and tie a knot. Stick a glue dot beneath the ribbon to hold in place.
On scrap Whisper White card stock stamp the floral image in VersaMark, cover with silver embossing powder and heat set. Cut out, add dimensionals and stick to card front.
Stamp the 'wedding wishes' greeting and cut out with one of the oval framelits. Cut out a corresponding scallop. Stick the two together then stick on top of ribbon using glue dots.
Stamp a corresponding greeting on the inside.

For the gift card insert:
Tranquil Tide CS: 5-1/4" x 4"
1st layer: Tranquil Tide DSP: 5-1/8" x 3-7/8"
2nd layer: Whisper White CS: 5" x 3-6/8"

Repeatedly cut a slot using the Word Window or Classic Label punch making it wide enough to hold a gift card which typically measures 3-3/8" x 2-1/8".
Stamp and emboss the floral image.
Adhere the layers to the base. Be sure to only stick adhesive around the edges of the Whisper White layer to ensure the insertion of the gift card.
Punch a hole on the right side and thread the ribbon through and knot.

For an envelope to put the entire project in, I found that a regular A2 envelope was too small so I make one using the Envelope Punch Board and selected the Card Size of 4-1/2" x 5-1/2".

Now go and make one as this design can be used for any occasion but before you do that, please be sure to visit our other demonstrator's submissions.

Embossing Folders

Remember that fabulous Cable Knit folder that came out last Christmas? Many of you purchased it. Then in the spring catalogue, the Hexagons embossing folder came out. This was a fabulous folder creating not only a masculine texture but a great background for anything 'bee' or 'nature' related. Well they are back again along with thee new ones. You must build your Big Shot sandwich a little differently from the other embossing folders and this video shows you how.

3D Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folders

Brand New or Back from Years Ago

A really exciting new product are the smaller version of the dimensionals on page 203. Imagine - no more cutting them in half.

Item #144108

Another new product is embossing paste on page 201. This has been around for a while and Stampin' Up! has recognized its popularity for adding dimension to projects. And the best thing - you can colour it using your re-inkers. I will have a class on this for sure. Other must have for using this paste are the palette knives, decorative masks and the silicone craft sheet.

Item #141979
Item #142808
Item #144103
Item #127853

Stampin' Up! used to carry glossy paper on page 194 - fabulous for inking techniques - and now it's back.

Item #144420
Oh and I have to tell you about the Multipurpose Adhesive Sheets. You know those intricate details dies? Examples are the Butterflies Thinlits, Bloomin' Heart Thinlits and the Detailed Floral Thinlits (to name a few) and any word dies. Well these have presented challenges with how to both cut them out and adhere them to our projects. Well, to cut them out, you really should have the the Precision Base Plate and the Big Shot Die Brush. And for sticking them down - no matter which glue we use, the glue seems to seep out leaving a glossy mess. This is where the adhesive sheets come in - no more mess and they ensure better adhesion. Check out this new Happy Birthday die.
Item #143700

I could add a few more things here, but I think I've taken up enough of your time. I'm hoping you have enjoyed this preview. Now go on, register for my Open House. I'd love to see you!

Seashore Stampers Blog Hop - Masculine Themed Card

Welcome to my blog and be sure to check out our other member contributions this month. They are listed at the end of this post.

With Father's Day just around the corner, the Father's Day/ Masculine theme for this month is perfect. I sadly cannot celebrate Father's Day since my dad passed away when I was 22 so I made a birthday card instead but before getting into that let me tell you a bit about my dad.

My father passed away from a second heart attack at 52 years old. It was a shock at the time as to me he was such a strong man. As my 52 birthday was closing in, I thought of him everyday - in particular his age at death. At the time, I thought of him as an old man, but even now in my sixties, I don't think of myself as an old woman so I realized just how young he was - robbed of so much more life to live. My father was an extremely hard worker, often putting his customers before family which meant he didn't spend a lot of time with us.  Typical to those days, my mom cared for her three children and so he attributed his long hours to wanting to provide the best life possible for us. He did and I am forever thankful. He was kind, generous, and funny. There was always a smile beneath his thick black mustache. Here I share a photo the two of us on a rare holiday in Cape Cod.

For the background on this card, I used a technique I learned from Gina K. Designs called 'woodgraining'. It created a perfect backdrop for the Nailed It stamp set bundle. Unfortunately this bundle completely sold out.

To start with I cut a piece of Whisper White to 3-3/4" x 5". Place the short side of the card stock on your score board and score at 3/4", 1-1/2", 2-1/4" and 3". Rotate it to the long side and then randomly score between the horizontal lines to create the look of a hardwood floor or brick wall. Hopefully this next photo will show you the lines I created.

Pick out three ink pad colours. I used Crumb Cake, Soft Suede and Always Artichoke.

Starting with the lightest colour, drag the ink pad across the card stock. You want to tilt the pad slightly and drag slowly from the short end of the pad. You don't' want to lay the pad flat and drag. It will just stick to the card stock and create an outline of the pad. Turn the card stock so you can drag from the other end, applying as much colour as you want. Switch to the next colour and repeat, then do the same with the darkest colour. Here is the result:

You can choose to leave in as much white as you want or not want. You decide. I really enjoyed how simple this technique was and will be doing it again experimenting with different colours. If you have any of the sea/ocean themed stamp sets, imagine a background with a whitewashed look. For two more 'woodgraining' looks, check out Gina's video below.

New In-Colors Sneak Peek

Coming soon - the new Annual Catalogue - and with it new in-colors for 2017-2019. They are bright and colourful and will coordinate wonderfully with the rest of the colour family. Here they are alongside the in-colors from the 2016-2018 collection.

To coordinate with these new colours, there is a new paper stack. Do you recognize the print? It's the same print featured in the Designer Series Paper called .Floral Boutique. That paper was so popular they decided to duplicate the patterns in the new in-colors.

Item #144131

For your card bases, there is the standard 8.5 x 11 inch card stock and it's available in 12 x 12 as well, a size often required for boxes and bags.
Item #144247

Item #145453
You will be able to purchase all five ink colours together along with a package of the Stampin' Write markers.

Item #144081

Item #144033

As for embellishments, there is coordinating ribbon in all five colours and take a look at these adorable bows (for those of you who have trouble making bows from scratch). Enamel dots are so popular in card-making - new this year are these gorgeous coordinating Glitter Enamel Dots.

Item #144217

Item #144200

You will be able to see all of these new products at my Open House in June so save a day and time that works best for you. More details will be forthcoming.

Paper Pumpkin Cards

I wanted to share with you the cards I made using the April Paper Pumpkin kit. This was a special kit because the CEO of Stampin' Up!, Sara Douglass, had a hand in designing it. The kit featured white embossed watercolour paper, a small set of watercolour pencils and a paint brush.  And the glimmer  flowers are gorgeous. It's bright and edgy with a different box from the regular orange Paper Pumpkin box.

The box included instructions for making multiples of 3 designs. Here are those three designs:

The next three are other designs I created using the watercoloured heart:

From the watercoloured grid design, I created these three cards:

And lastly, I made these cards to use up all the contents of the kit:

This kit was so much fun. If you are new to stamping and want to give it a try, a subscription to Paper Pumpkin will get you off to an easy start. To subscribe through my store, visit this link.

To see samples of past Paper Pumkin kits, visit the Paper Pumpkin YouTube channel.

As always, happy stamping!
